Stay At Home Mom

Some days I wish I could be a stay at home mom.
...
Maybe I'd be able to make more sweets like this...
The Sows Ear (gross name).
I will DEFINITELY be making this again.
And again.
It's so easy and so delicious!
Next time I'll be trying it with a drizzle of warm maple syrup...
...or make it with blueberries...
or whatever fruit is in season.
Tonight,
it tasted yummy warm right out of the oven, with a dust of powdered sugar and ice cream.
Mmm...
...
Some days I want to be a stay at home mom...
so I can look at this face everyday.
All day.

Yep.
That's it.
That's the only GOOD reason.
Mmm...
I love being a mom.

Nuggets Everywhere!

My 'Mommy Friends' and I got together at Karen's place for brunch recently and I can't believe how grown up the little ones are getting!! One of these little nuggets had 7 teeth at 6 months! No, it wasn't mine. :o) In case you've forgotten, the group consists of: Kim & Isaiah, Renee & Oliver, Lisa & Finn, Karen & Max, Elizabeth & Sam, and Christsa & Jack.(Missing-Margaux & Natalie)

Cute little Oliver with mommy

All smiles for Jack

Max is a chick magnet

Finn & Isaiah horsin' around

Sam wanted to eat and play at the same time.

Alex flirting with Lisa.

Whew! Time Flies!

Where did the time go?
...and where do I begin?

Well, the kiddo has grown up since I last posted and is now nearing 9 months! It is amazing how quickly they grow in 1 year of life!
Our little nugget is now moving all over the place! He's crawling like a mad man and pulling up on everything and cruising along the furniture! It won't be long and he'll be walking. Better get those gates up stat!

Big Day = Tired Little Man

Yesterday Alex and I had a big day of activities. We woke up early (what's new) enough to get ready to meet our Mom & Baby group for lunch at Tavern On France. This was a new experience for our group because our group dates usually just consist of meeting at the hospital for an hour and a half, in a dim room, with soft music playing. Luckily most of our babies didn't seem to mind the loud music and commotion of the restaurant and therefore our first little group date was a success! After lunch Alex and I headed to our last Mom & Baby Class at the hospital. A little bittersweet in that we made it through our 6 week of class (little bit of a struggle at times), but also it was our last class. We had so much fun being a part of this group. I would definitely recommend it to any new mom. It's nice to have such a great support group as well as a reason to get out of the house! Our little munchkins: Alex, Natalie, Jack, Finn, Max, Isaiah, Oliver & Sam. Yep, lucky girl that Natalie! :o)

New Friends: Kim & Isaiah, Lisa & Finn, Karen & Max, Christa & Jack, Renee & Oliver, Me & Alex, Elizabeth & Sam, Margaux & Natalie.

So, after we took some end of class pictures, Alex and I decided to head upstairs to the 4th floor where I work. I had meant to stop up there weeks ago, but never had quite made it up there usually due to a mr. crabby pants or a very tired mommy. This time we made it up there to see all my coworkers. It was so great to see them all and I can say that I was surprised how much I missed them and my job. I love my job and feel so fortunate to be able to do what I do for a career. The Family Care Center at FSH truly is a great place to have a baby and to work. Okay, before I get too mushy, I'll continue on with our day's events. Well, once on the 4th floor Alex was alert, sweet and even smiled at Emily, a co-worker of mine. That quickly and without warning changed to ear peircing screams almost instantly thereafter. Long story short we managed to settle him down, but not before a quick diaper change and feeding. I meant to stop down on the 2nd floor to see all my great L & D co-workers, but Alex had just fallin asleep. I quickly took the opportunity to head home. Now usually my little man sleeps very well in his car seat, but lately if I have to stop the car at a light or even slow down, he starts to wail. This is what happened at our first stop on the way home. This would have made me pull over, but somehow I have gotten good at reaching back, while driving, to give him his pacifier. Not very safe I'm sure, but like I said, I've gotten good at it. Once we got home I fed him and then it was back on the road again to see daddy play basketball in Fridley. I think he was so tuckered out from all the commotion of the day that he slept the entire way there, through Brent's game, and halfway home...waking only because I had hit a stoplight. :o) All in all it was a good day, but needless to say, he and haven't done much today. Happy lazy Friday & yay for the weekend! Love, Joni

Cherish The Time

Well, our little man is 7 weeks today. Hard to believe and boy does time fly! Speaking of flying...Alex has acquired many nicknames already, one being 'Goose'. I can't recall other babies 'honking' like Alex does, but when he does we can't help but laugh. I swear he honked on his way out of the womb! :o) Ha ha. Well, another nickname that I for some reason end up calling him is 'Bubba', which is not daddy's favorite. We're hoping it doesn't stick with him for life, but it just seems to always roll off my tongue so nicely! :o) Our little guy is growing so much, but you can't especially tell by just looking at him. We haven't gotten an official weight on him, but we estimate him to be 9.5-10lbs now. I like to think that's pretty good considering he was 7lbs 10oz at birth. How we can really tell he's truly growing is by some of his recent milestones: He's now focusing on our faces, tracking us with his eyes, holding his head up steadily and for long periods of time, smiling, talking, sucking on his hands, and outgrowing his newborn clothes! :o) It's kind of sad to find yourself packing clothes away that don't fit anymore! I know he's only 7 weeks old, but I'm already missing his 'newborn' phase...which is weird because almost every day I think to myself how great it's going to be when he can for example, sit up on his own or eat solids foods. Being on maternity leave has really made me remind myself of how very lucky I am to have this time with him and to cherish every moment with him for time goes by way too fast. Before we had Alex I was so excited to be on maternity leave because I had all these plans to do so many things, but in reality, my days go by in a second and even now, here I sit writing while my 7 week (AH ALREADY, still can't believe it!) old pumpkin is asleep in his crib. I know I should be using this alone time to do those 'many things' I wished to do, but for now I am content to sit...relax...and wait for that cry, that sweet cry. :o) I know it won't be long till our little Alex will need his mommy. :o) Makes mom happy. Have a good day you all! It's a great day! Love, Joni
